Vakerin also known as pyrogallin, also known as cabbage lactone, is a needle-shaped or crystalline powder extracted from the whole plant of Bergenia purpurscens (Hook.f.etThoms.) Engl., a plant of the saxifrage family.
Bergenia purpurascens [scientific name: Bergenia purpurascens (Hook. f. et Thoms.) Engl.] is a perennial herb of the family Saxifragaceae, up to 52 cm in height.  There are also northern Myanmar, northeastern India, northern Bhutan, and Nepal. Born in forests, shrubs, alpine meadows and alpine gravel crevices at an altitude of 2700-4800 meters.
The whole plant contains coumarin such as petogenin. The rhizomes are used as medicine; non-toxic; used to treat weakness, dizziness, overworked cough, hematemesis, hemoptysis, stranguria, leucorrhea and swelling. Use with caution in patients with exogenous fever and physical weakness.

Petgenin is an active ingredient of rock cabbage, which has the effect of antitussive and expectorant, and is a "special effect" drug for the treatment of chronic bronchitis, emphysema, bronchial asthma and other respiratory diseases.
