White mustard (scientific name: Sinapis alba L.) is a plant of the genus Sinapis in the family Brassicaceae. Herbs annual, up to 75(-100) cm; stems erect, branched. The lower leaves are large and pinnatifid; the petiole is 1-1.5 cm long; the upper leaves are ovate or oblong-ovate. Racemes with many flowers, up to 30 cm in fruiting stage; flowers pale yellow, about 1 cm in diameter; pedicel unfolded or slightly reflexed; petals obovate, 8-10 mm long. Siliques nearly cylindrical, 2-4 cm long, 3-4 mm wide, erect or curved; seeds 1-4 per cell, spherical, about 2 mm in diameter, yellowish brown, with fine sacs. 

Native to Europe. Introduced and cultivated in Liaoning, Shanxi, Shandong, Anhui, Xinjiang, Sichuan and other provinces in China. White mustard is a warm-loving and drought-resistant crop. White mustard seeds have wide adaptability and strong stress resistance, and are suitable for growing at an altitude of 1300-1900 meters and an average annual temperature of 13-18°C. The soil requirements are wide, and purple soil and sandy loam are most suitable.

White mustard is used as medicine with seeds, containing sinapin, myrosinase, sinapine, 4-hydroxybenzoylcholine, 4-hydroxybenzylamine and other components. Warm in nature, spicy in the mouth.
