Dihydroquercetin (DHQ) Study Methods and Compliance

 

Following national safety standards, we conducted two key toxicity tests: a 90-day feeding study (GB15193.13-2003) and a teratogenicity study (GB15193.14-2003). These studies were conducted to ensure that DHQ meets safety requirements and poses no risk to human health when used at recommended doses.

 

Dihydroquercetin (DHQ) 90-Day Feeding Study Results

 

The 90-day feeding study was designed to evaluate the long-term safety of DHQ when administered to rats over a long period. The study used three different dose groups: 0.17 g/kg, 0.50 g/kg, and 1.50 g/kg body weight.

 

The main findings of the study include:

  • Low and medium dose groups: No significant adverse effects were observed in rats at the low dose (0.17 g/kg) and medium dose (0.50 g/kg). Rats grew normally and did not show significant changes in food utilization, body weight, organ weights, or hematological parameters compared to the control group. There were no differences in blood biochemistry or histological findings at these doses.

 

  • High dose group: At the high dose (1.50 g/kg), some adverse effects were observed starting from week 11 of the study. Male rats in the high-dose group had lower weight gain and food efficiency compared to the control group. In addition, the high dose group elevated white blood cell counts and protein levels (total protein and albumin). However, no significant pathological changes were found in any of the tissues examined, and the changes observed were considered non-critical.

 

  • No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL): Based on the results, the NOAEL for DHQ was determined to be 0.50 g/kg. This means that no harmful effects were detected at this dose or lower.

 

Dihydroquercetin (DHQ) Teratogenicity Study Results


Teratogenicity studies were conducted using pregnant female rats at dose levels of 1.50 g/kg, 0.50 g/kg, and 0.17 g/kg. The study focused on evaluating potential developmental or reproductive toxicity in the offspring.

 

Key findings include:

  • No reproductive toxicity: The study found no significant effects on fertility, pregnancy outcomes, or embryonic development. No fetal abortions occurred, and the number of live births was not affected by DHQ treatment.

 

  • No teratogenic effects: No obvious abnormalities were observed in the appearance, skeletal, and internal organ development of the offspring in any dose group, indicating that DHQ does not cause teratogenic effects under the tested conditions.

 

  • Maximum non-teratogenic dose: The highest dose of 1.50 g/kg did not produce teratogenic effects, therefore, DHQ is considered safe in terms of developmental toxicity.


A comprehensive safety and toxicity evaluation of DHQ by GB15193-2003 showed that the product is safe at doses up to 0.50 g/kg with no significant adverse effects on long-term health or fetal development.
