Rauwolfia is cold in nature, bitter in taste, slightly poisonous, and has the effects of clearing wind and heat, reducing liver fire, and reducing swelling and poison. The Rao orphan contains a variety of alkaloids. It is divided into three by the strength of alkali.The first category is strongly alkaline (pKa10.4 ~ 11), which belongs to quaternary ammonium alkaloids, such as serpentine. 5.Pharmacological effect
1). Inhibition of the central nervous system
Reserpine and its analogues have both hypotensive and inhibitory effects on the central nervous system.
2). Hypotensive effect
Rauwolfia Root Extract has always been the only source of the blood pressure lowering drug reserpine in China. The antihypertensive mechanism of reserpine and its analogues is mainly through inhibiting the uptake and synthesis of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine (NA) in the sympathetic nerve endings, promoting the release of NA, reducing the storage of NA, and gradually depleting it, resulting in decreased sympathetic function, decreased blood pressure, and slower heart rate. Due to the weak antihypertensive effect of reserpine and its susceptibility to sedation and other side effects, it is commonly used in combination with diuretics for the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension.
3). Anti arrhythmia
Amarillin, a component of the laudrosphere extract, has potent antiarrhythmic effects. In addition to its therapeutic effects on atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, it also has a good effect on the treatment of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome."
4). Anti tumor activity
Alkaloids of the laurouth extract disrupt the hydrogen bond of the DNA double helical structure of tumor cells, thereby inhibiting the proliferation of tumor cells.
