Raw Material Selection and Initial Processing

We use the best red clover plants, avoiding the use of traditional sun-dried/air-dried raw materials. We primarily harvest plants in the bud stage, focusing on those without yellowing or rot, ensuring the highest overall biomass and isoflavone accumulation per unit area. After the raw materials arrive at the factory, they undergo rapid sorting, washing, and chopping pre-treatment before immediately entering the extraction stage, maximizing activity and ensuring the integrity of the effective components in the red clover extract powder.

Extraction Process

We employ two mature extraction processes.
The first is the "direct alcohol extraction method": Chopped fresh raw materials are added to an extraction tank with 75%-95% ethanol or methanol (ethanol is preferred) at a weight ratio of 1:1 to 1:2 (fresh materials: solvent). The mixture is then heated and refluxed twice, each time for 1-4 hours (usually 2 hours). The two extracts are combined. The combined extract is then concentrated under reduced pressure to recover the solvent.

After concentration to a certain volume, it is cooled and allowed to stand (usually 12-24 hours). The supernatant is decanted (which can be reserved for further purification), and the viscous precipitate at the bottom (A) is collected. Finally, the precipitate is dried to obtain a crude extract of red clover with a total isoflavone content of 8%-24%.

The second is the "cold pressing-alcohol extraction combined method": First, chopped fresh raw materials are mixed with 1-2 times their weight of water and added to a juicer for cold pressing, compression, and separation. Then, the raw materials are subjected to the alcohol extraction process described in the first method (75%-95% ethanol, refluxed twice). Finally, a precipitate is obtained, which is dried to obtain a crude extract. The juice is then passed through a macroporous adsorption resin column.

Impurities are first eluted with a low concentration of ethanol (e.g., 10%) (discarded), followed by elution with a high concentration of ethanol (e.g., 80%-90%) to obtain the target isoflavones. This eluent is collected. The eluent is concentrated under reduced pressure, cooled, and allowed to stand to obtain a viscous precipitate (B), which is dried to obtain a high-purity extract (content up to approximately 24%). The two extracts obtained from the raw material residue and the juice in this method can be mixed, or processed separately as different product specifications.

Standardization and Refinemen

The crude extract obtained above (approximately 20% content) is refluxed with ethyl acetate 2-3 times. The ethyl acetate extracts are combined, concentrated, and cooled to precipitate crystals or precipitate. The precipitate is then filtered and dried to obtain an extract with a total isoflavone content of 50%-75%.
If a customer requires a higher concentration product, the 55%-75% extract can be further processed by hot dissolution with methanol, followed by recrystallization to prepare a high-purity product with a total isoflavone content as high as 90%-95%.

Quality inspection and packaging

The dried extract is pulverized and sieved to ensure uniform particle size. Products from the same batch are mixed to ensure homogeneity. According to company standards or customer requirements, the red clover extract is tested for isoflavone content (such as chickpea sprout A, genistein, daidzein, etc.), moisture, ash, solvent residue, and microorganisms. After passing inspection, it is inner-packaged (usually aluminum foil bags) and outer-packaged (cardboard drums) in a clean, dry environment and stored in a cool, dry place.
