The pharmacological action of Senna Leaf extract powder

Part1.The main ingredients of  Senna Leaf extract powder

Senna leaf mainly contains sennoside A, B, C, D, aloe-emodin 8-glucoside (Aloee modin8-monoglucoside), rhein-8-monoglucoside (Rhein-8-monoglucoside) and aloe-emodin , rhein, salicylic acid (salicylic acid), palmitic acid (palmitic acid), stearic acid isorhamnetin (Isorhamnetin), kaempferol, phytosterols and their glycosides. In addition, senna leaves still contain rhein-8-diglucoside, rhein anthraquinone-8-glucoside, and primary glycosides.

Part2.Pharmacological action

1.Antibacterial effect:

The 10% senna leaf extract has obvious inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, Proteus, Shigella, Streptococcus A and S. albicans. Some hydroxyanthraquinones in senna leaf have a certain antibacterial effect. The alcohol extract of Senna ovata has inhibitory effect on a variety of bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Diphtheria, Typhoid Bacillus, Paratyphoid Bacillus, Escherichia coli, etc. The water extract is only effective for Typhoid Bacillus. Senna leaf water extract (1:4) has inhibitory effect on dermatophytes such as Bacillus audulans and Nocardia stellaris in vitro.

2. Hemostatic effect:

After oral administration, senna powder can increase platelets and fibrinogen, shorten the coagulation time, recalcification time, thromboplastin time and blood clot contraction time, and help to stop bleeding. Crystal fibers and calcium oxalate clusters in senna have local hemostatic effects.

Senna Leaf extract powder3. Effects on the digestive system:

Senna is a laxative. Recent studies have found that this drug can not only stimulate the release of PG from the colonic mucosa (and it is believed that this is a mechanism of diarrhea), but also can make the gastric body of rats. The level of PG in the gastric antrum increased significantly. Senna can prevent high-dose indomethacin damage to the gastric mucosa, probably because it can antagonize the latter's inhibitory effect on gastric mucosal cyclooxygenase (PG synthase). Since the diarrhea-causing effect of PG is also a protective effect on the intestinal tract, senna leaf has a protective effect on the gastric mucosa by stimulating the synthesis of PG, which is consistent with the laxative effect of stimulating the synthesis of PG.

4. Muscle relaxation and antispasmodic effect:

Senna has a curare-like effect, which can block acetylcholine at the motor nerve endings and skeletal muscles, thereby causing muscle relaxation. Certain hydroxyanthraquinones in senna leaf have a certain antispasmodic effect.

5. Other effects:

The seeds of senna auricularia can reduce fasting blood sugar in dogs, and the whole herb also contains cardiac glycosides.
