Q&A about sesamin extract

Part1:  Q&A about sesamin extract

1.What are the effects of sesamin extract?

Sesamin extract contributes to anti-oxidation and anti-inflammatory, and is mainly considered to have the effect of "protecting the liver and kidney". Some studies have also pointed out that sesamin may help prevent Parkinson's disease, increase bone mass, and so on. However, these effects are still in the research stage, and there is no exact scientific confirmation.

2.Does sesamin extract sleep help?

Sesamin extract  is a unique component in sesame seeds. Its molecular structure is similar to that of human endocrine hormones, which can indirectly affect the physiological metabolism of the body. Although it is often used as a health product for sleep aid and metabolism, there are few clinical trials for sleep aid.

3.What are the side effects of sesamin extract

Be aware of the legal upper limit for sesamin, which is 15 mg per day. Sesame seeds are a very common but often overlooked allergen, and people who are prone to food allergies need special attention. If you have allergic symptoms such as redness, swelling, itching, etc. after taking sesamin, you should stop eating it immediately.

Part2:  3 ingredients recommended with sesamin extract

1. Vitamin E

Natural sesame and sesame oil are rich in vitamin E, and sesamin is also inseparable from vitamin E. Vitamin E is an important antioxidant in the body. Sesamin can reduce the decomposition of vitamin E in the liver, increase the antioxidant power of liver cells, and achieve the effect commonly known as "liver protection". Sesamin is an oil component, which is easily oxidized to produce oily taste. Adding vitamin E to oily food can also play a role in "preservation" and prolong the shelf life of the product.Like vitamin E, sesamin also aids in the absorption of vitamin K.

2. Fish oil

Sesamin combined with fish oil can accelerate the metabolism of liver fat. Studies have found that sesamin combined with DHA and EPA in fish oil can improve the metabolism of fat and make the liver protection effect more significant. Fish oil can also effectively metabolize fat in the human body, so in addition to its antidepressant and sleep aid effects, it is often recommended for obese people as a dietary supplement.

3.Schisandra

Schisandra is a sun-dried fruit, a traditional Chinese herbal remedy for liver inflammation, and a common ingredient in sesamin health foods. Studies have shown that daily consumption of 260 mg of Schisandra chinensis extract and 10 mg of sesamin can significantly improve liver function and reduce liver index.

Part3:  3 effects of sesamin extract

Sesamin health food is not easy to feel the immediate effect, but after long-term consumption, it is still beneficial to liver function and cardiovascular function.

1. Strengthen liver function

The combination of sesamin and vitamin E helps to increase the antioxidant capacity of the liver, reduce the accumulation of liver fat, and regulate alcohol metabolism, achieving the effect commonly known as "liver protection".

2. Prevention of myocardial infarction and stroke

Although there is insufficient evidence, sesamin appears to have protective effects on the nervous system.  In a 2006 experiment, sesamin was found to reduce the risk of stroke by about 56% and the risk of myocardial infarction by 49%. However, after converting the dosage, you need to eat about 150 mg of sesamin per day. This amount is very large (the regulations recommend 15 mg per day), so it is difficult to rely on food and health food to achieve such an effect.

3. Lower blood pressure

In a 2009 study, middle-aged women with high blood pressure who took 60 mg of sesamin daily for 4 weeks had a significant reduction in blood pressure.  Although 60 mg may seem like a lot, according to the current research, whether it is consuming the extracted sesamin, or directly eating sesame or sesame oil, it has the effect of lowering blood pressure slightly.  In addition, the efficacy of sesamin has always been a very popular research field. In recent years, some seemingly potential effects have been reported, such as: preventing Parkinson's disease, increasing bone mass, and so on. I look forward to the development of sesamin for human health, but these effects are still in the research stage, and there is no exact scientific confirmation.
