Part1. What is Dodder Extract ?
Dodder is an annual herbaceous plant that belongs to parasitic plants. It is distributed in most parts of China and has a wide distribution range. Medicinal dodder is the mature seed of annual parasitic dodder (Cuscutachinensis Lam.) or large dodder (Cu-scutajaponica Choisy.) of Convolvulaceae. The production areas are widely distributed, and the quality of real estate in Shandong and Henan is better. According to many surveys of medicinal materials, the same genus, Cuscuta australis, has become the mainstream variety of commercial medicinal materials, followed by Cuscuta grandis. Cuscuta has a hard texture, and the active ingredients are not easy to be decocted, so it must be processed before being used as medicine. Contains alkaloids, anthraquinones, flavonoids, saponins, trace elements, etc., as described in the Pharmacopoeia, Cuscuta is pungent, sweet, and slightly warm in nature; it returns to the liver, kidney, and spleen meridians; it is mild in nature, can float and sink, and has the function of nourishing the kidney Replenishing essence, nourishing liver and improving eyesight, invigorating spleen and strengthening fetus, treating lumbago and tinnitus, impotence and nocturnal emission, thirst, infertility, enuresis and incontinence, turbid leukorrhea, dark head, lack of food and diarrhea, restless fetal movement.

Cuscuta seed extract contains cholesterol, campesterol, β-sitosterol, flavonoids, stigmasterol, β-amyrin and triterpene acids, resinous glycosides (glycosides) and sugars, as well as calcium and chromium , manganese, iron, nickel, zinc, etc. The ratio of amino acids after hydrolysis of free amino acids in dodder is 5.3%, and the content of essential amino acids in free amino acids is 42.8%. It also contains new sesamin, coumarin, saponins, sugars, organic acids, β-carotene, γ-carotene, dandelion xanthin, etc.

Cuscuta contains cholesterol, resinous glycosides, sugars and flavonoids, among which flavonoids are the main active ingredients. The pharmacological research on Cuscuta mainly focuses on the aspects of invigorating the kidney and strengthening yang, immunity, and cardiovascular. Recently, it has also been reported that it has anti-oxidation and anti-aging effects.
(1) The effect on the reproductive system.
Cuscuta decoction can significantly improve the function of human sperm in vitro, but has no obvious adverse effects on the membrane function of sperm.
(2) Effects on the endocrine system
Experiments have proved that the function of Cuscuta "tonifying kidney and strengthening yang" is to improve the regulation function of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary axis by improving the reactivity of the pituitary gland to LRH and the reactivity of the ovary to LH, thereby treating luteal phase insufficiency and regulating female reproductive endocrine disorder.
