Pueraria lobata, a leguminous plant kudzu, is a common vegetable in some provinces and regions in southern China. Its main component is starch, and in addition, it contains about 12% of flavonoids, including more than 10 kinds of soybean (daidzein) glycosides, daidzein, puerarin, etc.; and also contains carotenoids, amino acids, coumarins, etc. Can be used as medicine. As early as the period of Yao, Shun and Yu, people have already started to use kudzu to make hemp weaving. In 1972, in Caoxie Mountain, Wuxian County, Jiangsu Province, three pieces of Gebu that were made in the Neolithic Age and are still superbly crafted today were unearthed. These three pieces of Gebu are reliable witnesses that China has begun to use Pueraria more than 6,000 years ago.

chemical composition

Pueraria lobata contains isoflavones puerarin, puerarin xyloside, daidzein, daidzein glycosides, β-sitosterol, arachidic acid, and a lot of starch (the content in fresh pueraria is 19-20%).

The dried root of Ganku vine contains 37% starch.

The roots of kudzu trilobata contain 15-20% starch.

Puerarin, daidzein, daidzein glycosides, beta-sitosterol, 4',6"-diacetylpuerarin and stigmasterol were isolated from the roots of the congeners in India.

Pueraria root mainly contains carbohydrates, vegetable protein, various vitamins and minerals, and also contains flavonoids: daidzein, daidzein, and daidzein-4,7-diglucoside, puerarin, puerarin-7- Xyloside, puerarin, pueraria and isoflavone glycosides, etc.

Indications of function

Relieves external fever, promotes body fluid, penetrates rash, raises yang and stops diarrhea. For exogenous fever, headache, high blood pressure, neck pain, thirst, diabetes, measles, dysentery, diarrhea.

"Compendium of Materia Medica" contains: Pueraria lobata, cool in nature, calm in gas, sweet in taste, has the functions of clearing away heat, reducing fire, and detoxifying. Modern medical research shows that the isoflavone compound puerarin in pueraria has a certain effect on hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

1. Nutritious myocardium, dilate blood vessels, Puerariae total flavonoids and puerarin can improve myocardial oxygen metabolism, have a beneficial effect on myocardial metabolism, and at the same time can dilate blood vessels, improve microcirculation, reduce vascular resistance, and increase blood flow, so it can be used to prevent and treat myocardial ischemia. Myocardial infarction, arrhythmia, hypertension, arteriosclerosis and other conditions.

2. Muscle release: Pueraria acetone extract has the effect of normalizing body temperature and is effective for various types of fever. Therefore, it is often used for fever, thirst, restlessness and other symptoms.

3. Hypoglycemic and lipid-lowering Puerarin has obvious effect of lowering blood sugar. The flavonoids contained in Pueraria root have blood-lipid-lowering effect, which can lower serum cholesterol and lower triglycerides. It is used to treat hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia. It has significant curative effect.

4. Nourishing effect Some studies have shown that pueraria has a clear therapeutic effect on learning and memory disorders, and pueraria alcohol extract can significantly counteract the memory impairment caused by doxycycline. It can be used to treat senile dementia, intellectual disability, poor memory and other diseases.

5. Uplifting yang qi, quenching thirst and stopping diarrhea, Pueraria lobata, Qingqing Shengsan, medicinal properties increase hair, willow lifts yang qi, encourages uprightness of the body, and distributes body fluids. Raise the spleen and stomach, clear the yang air and quench thirst, stop diarrhea and dysentery. Therefore, it is often used to treat internal heat and thirst, measles, diarrhea, dysentery and other diseases.
