Original form Evergreen shrub, about 1~2 meters high, with delicate, gray-white branches, the whole plant has an aroma. Leaves opposite, sessile; The leaves are linear, leathery, about 3.4 cm long, about 2~4 mm wide, dark green above, smooth, gray below, hairy, scaly glands, leaf margin reversed, the lower main vein is obvious. The flower wheel is born in the leaf axil, purplish-red, lip-shaped; calyx bell-shaped, 2 lip-shaped, with pink hairs; Corolla 2 lips, short tube, broad larynx, 2 lobes of upper lip, 3 lobes of lower lip, large, concave with purple spots; The stamens develop only 1 pair anteriorly; Ovary 2 chambers, peduncle slightly beyond the outer upper lip. Small nut 4, smooth, ovoid shape. Flowering period is 4~6 months.
Chemical composition of whole herb (leaves and branches) contains apigenin-7-glucoside, luteolin-7-glucoside, 5-hydroxy-4′, 7-dimethoxyflavonoid, 4′,5-dihydroxy-7-methoxyflavonoid, sage bitter lactone, carnosic acid, rosmarinine, isorosemarin, epi-α-aromatic alcohol, α-aromatic alcohol, β-aromatic alcohol, betulinol, ursolic acid, 19α-hydroxyursolic acid, 2β-hydroxyoleanolic acid, etc. and β-sitosterol.
The branches and leaves contain 0.48~0.52% volatile oil with antibacterial effect, including α-cybone, camphene, 1,8-cineole, dipteron, camphor α- and β-terpineol, terpinene-4-ol, horseflagenol, dipternol acetate, etc.
In addition, geraninosides, rosmarinic acid, and labial-tannin acid are also found. Lamiforma tannin acid is a phenolic carboxylic acid of caffeic acid and α-hydroxyhydrocaffeic acid, which has antioxidant effects with the above carnosic acid.
Pharmacological effects Rosemary preparations can be used as menstrual inherents in gynecology, which can be used to accelerate menstrual cramps caused by menopausal nervous disorders caused by oligomenorrhea or menopause. Dogs with chronic gallbladder fistula are injected intravenously with rosemarinine 5~10mg/kg, which can promote the excretion of bile. Rosmarinine can also strengthen the inhibitory process of the cerebral cortex, has hypnotic and anticonvulsant effects. 5~20mg/kg can reduce the blood pressure of anesthetized cats, which is caused by the inhibition of the heart and the dilation of blood vessels. It also prevents experimental gastric ulcers in rats, which are not very toxic.
The volatile oil of rosemary leaf has a positive antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholerae, etc., and the potency is moderate. An oil blend made with hollyhock root promotes hair growth. Geranicoside contained in rosemary can reduce rabbit capillary permeability, and the effect is stronger than rutin. The therapeutic effect on increased capillary fragility is better than rutin, and the toxicity is low.
