8.1. Function of the nervous system
8.1.1. Anti-anxiety effect: Kavalactone can improve the attention, memory and responsiveness of patients with anxiety disorders, and make patients in a relaxed state, but its effect is slow. The University of Jena in Germany conducted a controlled experiment on 101 outpatients suffering from anxiety and obsessive-compulsive neurosis. The patients were given 100 mg/day of kava extract and placebo, respectively. After 8 weeks, the patients in the group kava had a significant effect.

8.1.2. Sedative and hypnotic effect: Kavapyrone is currently believed to act through the GABA receptor binding site.

8.1.3. Local anesthetic effect: Kava extract can cause muscle paralysis, the mechanism of action is similar to lidocaine, and it works by blocking potential dependent sodium channels.
