what is tUDCA made from?

Our product is derived through a scientific conversion pathway involving endogenous bile acids: TUDCA is formed by the conjugation of taurine and Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA), while UDCA itself is a secondary bile acid produced through the metabolic activity of intestinal microbiota acting upon primary bile acids. This naturally conjugated form represents the predominant state found in the bile of humans and various animal species, boasting a history of application in traditional medicine spanning several centuries.

Separate Fermentation and Mixing of Three Enzyme-Producing Microorganisms

Microbial strains capable of producing 7α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, 7β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, and flavin reductase were cultured separately. After fermentation, the enzymatic activity of each culture was assayed, and the resulting fermentation broths were mixed in a ratio of 100:80:1 to obtain a mixed fermentation broth.

Preparation of Mixed Enzyme Solution via Ceramic Membrane Concentration

The mixed fermentation broth was filtered and concentrated using a 30 μm ceramic membrane (Membrane I) to retain the enzyme-containing whole cells, yielding a concentrated mixed enzyme solution. This concentrate was then diluted with three times its volume of an aqueous solution at pH 7.5 to produce a mixed enzyme solution ready for direct use in the biotransformation reaction.

Substrate Solution Preparation and Enzymatic Catalysis

Tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA), water, and hydrogen peroxide were mixed in a weight ratio of 1:4:0.1, and the pH was adjusted to 8.0 using ammonia solution to prepare the substrate solution. The mixed enzyme solution and the substrate solution were continuously pumped into a reactor simultaneously; the feed rates were controlled such that both streams were completely introduced within 30 minutes. The total reaction time was 30 minutes, at the end of which the biotransformation was complete.

Membrane Filtration and Enzyme Recycling

Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was directed to a second set of 30 μm ceramic membranes (Membrane II) for filtration, yielding a TUDCA-containing aqueous solution and a secondary concentrated mixed enzyme solution. The secondary concentrated mixed enzyme solution was diluted again with three times its volume of the pH 7.5 aqueous solution and returned to the reactor for recycling, while Ceramic Membrane I continued to concentrate fresh fermentation broth to replenish the system.

Alternating Adsorption and Desorption via Resin Columns

The TUDCA-containing aqueous solution was introduced into a non-polar resin column adsorption system (operated in an alternating dual-column mode). The TUDCA was adsorbed onto the resin, while the effluent-a clear liquid-was recycled back to the aqueous solution system from the second step for reuse. Once the resin reached adsorption saturation, a mixed eluent (methanol:acetone:acetonitrile:water:sodium chloride in a ratio of 10:3:1:3:0.1–0.5, pH 7.0–8.0) was passed through the column to elute the adsorbed TUDCA, yielding a TUDCA-rich eluate.

Crystallization, Separation, Drying, and Mother Liquor Recovery

Slowly add 5% hydrochloric acid to the eluate, adjusting the pH to 4–5 over a period of 25–35 minutes. Stir the mixture for 2 hours to facilitate crystal growth, then perform vacuum filtration or centrifugation at 3000 rpm to obtain the wet TUDCA product. The wet product is vacuum-dried at 50–60°C until a constant weight is achieved; it is then pulverized and passed through an 80-mesh sieve to yield the final product powder. Sodium hydroxide is added to the separated filtrate to readjust the pH to 7.0–8.0, after which it is recycled into the mixed eluent for reuse.

what is TUDCA Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid Powder benefits ?

tauroursodeoxycholic acid gallstones

Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid Gallstones

A study has confirmed that tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) is effective in preventing the formation of cholesterol gallstones. The study utilized a mouse model induced by a high-fat diet, in which TUDCA (5 g/kg of feed) was added to the lithogenic diet and administered continuously for eight weeks. The results revealed that all mice in the group not receiving tudca powder developed cholesterol gallstones, whereas none of the mice in the TUDCA group formed gallstones; only a few exhibited cholesterol crystals.

Mechanistic investigations indicated that TUDCA significantly reduced total cholesterol levels in both serum and the liver, downregulated the hepatic expression of the Abcg5 and Abcg8 genes, and lowered the gallbladder cholesterol saturation index. Furthermore, TUDCA modulated the gut microbiota by increasing the abundance ratio of the phyla Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes, thereby inhibiting lipid absorption and synthesis in the small intestine. Consequently,  tUACD powder can significantly reduce the risk of gallstones by modulating both lipid metabolism and the gut microbiota.

What Is Tudca For Liver?

A recent study has confirmed that tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) exerts significant protective effects on liver health in the elderly. In this study, daily intravenous administration of 300 mg/kg of TUDCA effectively improved lipid metabolism in aged rats, reduced cholesterol ester levels, and attenuated hepatocyte degeneration, lymphocyte infiltration, and liver fibrosis. Furthermore, TUDCA inhibited the activity of the NLRP3 inflammasome and downregulated the expression of key inflammatory markers-such as NLRP3 and ASC-thereby blocking the progression of liver injury at the level of inflammatory pathways.

As an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress inhibitor, TUDCA has also been demonstrated to block ER stress-induced NLRP3 activation and hepatocyte death. These findings indicate that tUACD raw powder holds substantial therapeutic potential for combating liver fibrosis, enhancing liver function, and alleviating hepatic inflammatory responses.

Can Tudca Help With Weight Loss?

A recent study published in an academic journal indicates that tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) plays a significant role in reducing fat accumulation and improving glucose tolerance. Using protein-malnourished mice fed a high-fat diet as a model, the study evaluated the comprehensive effects of TUDCA on glucose and lipid metabolism via intraperitoneal injection. The results demonstrated that TUDCA powder effectively reduced overall fat accumulation and improved metabolic flexibility; furthermore, it mitigated ectopic fat deposition by activating the AMPK/HSL signaling pathway in the liver.

Regarding glucose metabolism, TUDCA improved both glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, normalizing insulin secretion and enhancing the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin. These findings confirm that, for individuals facing the dual burden of malnutrition and obesity,  TUDCA can effectively reverse metabolic dysfunction.

TUDCA demonstrates potent cytoprotective effects across numerous disease models by alleviating endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, stabilizing the unfolded protein response (UPR), mitigating oxidative stress, and inhibiting apoptosis and inflammatory responses.

  • Can TUDCA lower cholesterol?

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between TUDCA and UDCA (Ursodeoxycholic Acid)? Which one is better?

A: TUDCA is the taurine-conjugated form of UDCA, synthesized within the body through the conjugation of UDCA with taurine. This structural modification significantly enhances TUDCA's water solubility and biological activity. In a 6-month, double-blind, randomized controlled trial involving patients with liver cirrhosis, serum levels of ALT, AST, and ALP in the TUDCA group decreased by approximately 43%, 46%, and 38%, respectively; in contrast, the UDCA group saw decreases of only about 25%, 31%, and 9%. Furthermore, albumin levels in the TUDCA group improved by 17%, surpassing the 10% improvement observed in the UDCA group. Additionally, the scope of TUDCA's benefits is broader than that of UDCA; it extends beyond the liver to encompass aspects such as cytoprotection, neuroprotection, support for insulin sensitivity, and mitochondrial health, whereas UDCA is primarily associated with direct hepatic and biliary effects.

Q: How does TUDCA aid digestion? Does it help alleviate constipation or bloating?

A: As a bile salt, TUDCA facilitates fat emulsification and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Studies indicate that TUDCA increases bile flow by approximately 250%. This increased bile secretion stimulates intestinal peristalsis, helping to alleviate constipation and promote regular bowel movements, while also reducing post-meal bloating and indigestion. TUDCA also improves intestinal barrier function by increasing the levels of tight junction molecules, thereby mitigating intestinal inflammation and modulating the composition of gut microbiota. A small minority of users may experience mild digestive discomfort-including slight acid reflux, bloating, or stomach upset-when taking TUDCA on an empty stomach or at high doses.

Q: Is TUDCA beneficial for the pancreas?

A: Yes. As a chemical chaperone, TUDCA significantly alleviates endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress within the pancreas and inhibits the unfolded protein response. In animal models of acute pancreatitis, pretreatment with TUDCA reduced intracellular trypsin activation, edema formation, and cellular damage, while simultaneously significantly lowering myeloperoxidase activity in both pancreatic and pulmonary tissues. Furthermore, TUDCA can enhance glucose-stimulated insulin secretion via the cAMP/PKA signaling pathway and protect the morphology and function of pancreatic beta cells.

Q: Can individuals with hypertension or hyperglycemia take TUDCA?

A: Yes, but it is recommended to do so under the guidance of a physician. Animal studies indicate that TUDCA can improve systolic blood pressure and enhance insulin sensitivity in obese mice. In one study, serum glucose levels in mice fed a high-fat diet dropped by approximately 43% following TUDCA treatment. However, data regarding the use of TUDCA for controlling blood pressure or blood glucose levels in humans remain limited at this time. Patients currently taking antihypertensive or hypoglycemic medications should closely monitor relevant health markers while taking TUDCA.
