Safflower is the dried flower of Carthamustinctorius L., a plant of Compositae, also known as grass safflower, Huai safflower, thorn safflower, etc.
Safflower, annual herb, about 1 meter high. Stems erect, glabrous, branched above. Leaves oblong-elliptic or ovate-lanceolate, 4-12 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, apex pointed, base narrow or round, sessile, base clasped, margin pinnately toothed, with needles at the tooth end , glabrous on both sides, upper leaves gradually smaller, forming bracts around flower heads. Inflorescence 3-4 cm in diameter, stalked, arranged in a corymb shape; involucre nearly spherical, about 2 cm long, about 2.5 cm wide; outer bracts ovate-lanceolate, slightly contracted above the base, green, with edges Acupuncture, the inner layer is ovate-elliptic, entire below the middle, the top is long and pointed, and there are slightly short spines on the upper edge; tubular flowers are orange-yellow.
